As this project was anchored creatively on the spirit of tea ceremony, the linework guides the interplay of light and shadow where the subtle sense of visual penetration adds many poetically metaphoric elements, such as lotus decor, aligned with the calligraphy character of roaming in the sofa area, being imbued in the interior as to articulate the essence of Posh Oriental Zen.
Cultural Zen Style, Nature, Tao, Art Style, Oriental Style
Infused with natural materials and sculpting techniques to create an oriental Zen style ambiance with culture and nature in harmony, the main wall at the reception was made from beige travertine and marble in light color tone to bring about a peaceful and harmonious perception; the wall at the sofa area features large cut-face masonry panels, as the aging beauty of the materials articulates the robust sense of beauty; the surface texture of teak-veneered and steel-brushed partition up front at the entrance features a soft wave pattern embedded at the rose gold color edge, much like a gigantic but soft sculpture work.
As limited by the surrounding environment, there is no view on-site, any visual centerpiece can only be created in the interior, therefore, the wall adopts a design of similar color-tones with different luminosity and contrast while the marble floor with geometric figures in the lobby features precise configuration and color scheme in design complemented in moderation by minimalist decorative elements such as pure white lotus, etc., to enrich the visual experiences.
This project duration was from September to December 2019 in Tucheng District, New Taipei City, Taiwan
As this project is situated in the densely populated New Taipei City, in order to allow the visitors to enjoy a brief moment of serenity, the Posh Oriental Zen style and the spirit of the oriental tea ceremony are infused into this design work while precise and harmonious color scheme, natural and flowing wooden pattern, and the large-cut humble masonry panel together create a tranquil atmosphere, as well as transparent and obscured spatiality through the visual penetration in each functional space, so that it brings some relief to any fatigued body and mind.
From the laser-engraved motif on the entrance door to the geometric figures on the lobby floor, the design configuration and color scheme are all very precise in its beauty of simplicity. With partial wall surfaces adopting large-cut masonry panel, and the materials subject to much weathering effect articulating the beauty of grandeur and masculinity. The reading room takes a neutral color tone, as the timber bookshelf wall articulating layers of configuration.
The main marble wall on the reception counter is decorated with lotus leaves, which is a symbol of good fortune in oriental culture, as well as resembling phonetically with the phrase of Safety and Harmony, and Peaceful Living, denoting beauty and peace. As any gaze at such large sculpture brings about a reflective and meditative effect similar to that from a tea ceremony, the lounge sofa area and its arrangement were inspired by the calligraphic character of Roam in forming a relaxing space.
