Ormankoy Community Centre

Nature for DAP Yapı

To establish an intersection between Ormankoy Community Centre and the surrounded natural park which is approx. 60.000 sqm, 2 biological ponds in size of total 4000 sqm had been incorporated to project area. Along the design process, it's aimed to form a clean and sleek geometry; a unique – iconic – lasting impact. Surrounded by the natural park, functional gains had met with the requirements by the advantage of having large foot area under the 2 gable roofs lowering to ground level.

Unique Properties

Wooden shell forms the building's characteristics. Wide glazed façades expand the indoor spaces to nature. Within the project area there are 2 ponds in different levels. Water quality of both ponds intended to be potable water. The use of hard chemicals has been avoided to ensure the safety of the guest's pets as well as the surrounding wildlife. Wooden claddings which is expected to change its colour and texture in time - as seen in the seasonal changes of the forest- are used both in indoor and outdoor façades.

Production Technology

Steel frame structure is what gives the unique shape of the building. From ground to 3rd basement levels, steel structure sits on concrete beams which spans over 18 meters above pool space.

Inspiration

Design is an abstraction of surrounding natural environment. It's aimed to establish an intersection between Ormankoy Community Centre and the surrounded natural park with addition of biological pond which is 4000 sqm in size. Compared to the natural park level, project building is located on the peak of the land which gives the opportunity of both to see and comprehend the natural park better and also to be seen and comprehended at the same time.

Project Overview

Ormankoy Community Centre Nature has been a Platinum winner in the Architecture, Building and Structure Design award category in the year 2020 organized by the prestigious A' Design Award & Competition. The Platinum A' Design Award is recognized for honoring designs that stand at the forefront of creativity and innovation. It is the highest accolade bestowed by the A' Design Awards, acknowledging works that blend remarkable innovation with impactful societal contributions. These designs not only showcase exceptional artistic and technical proficiency but also highlight their creators' commitment to advancing the boundaries of art, science, design, and technology. Recipients of this award are celebrated for their role in shaping the aesthetics and trends of our time, contributing significantly to the enhancement of quality of life and promoting sustainable development.
