Media interactive space, Media integrated exihibition, Digital installation, National Museum of China
In this project, SODA wants to bridge people with space and objects via spatial user experience and interaction in the construction of modern public space. We researched and customized the media surface to give people a seamless experience in the interaction between physical surface and virtual interface. We developed a space AR program that adds another layer of virtual space parallel to the physical one, in which visitors can have an extra dimensional experience beyond their everyday cognition, and have an imaginative experience of hyper reality.
The challenge of the design is to break the conventional display of cultural and creative products in the store and allow customers to tour the cultural derivatives like an exhibition, converting the sales space into an exhibition space. The products and the island-like display case complement each other, providing a new way to explore the collections of the National Museum.
The project started in May 2020 and finished in December 2020, and was exhibited in National Museum of China.
Physically, Visitors encounter historic and cultural products along with the flowing shape booths. Virtually, visitors are immersed in the digital flowing river of Chinese characters, which derives from museum collections. SODA interprets Chinese civilization by the contemporary aesthetic vocabulary, initiating a new dialogue on the relationship between history, modern, and people. Only the participation of people completes the work. Therefore, the exhibition prepared digital souvenirs that can be shared for those who come and explore this new cultural and creative exhibition hall.
Our team studied and researched important exhibits from different periods at the National Museum and selected seven representative works from them. The ancient texts of the era that they originated are brought together through artistic invention into a long river of words. The final result is a motion graphic image that flows through the led screen in the space of the National Museum.
The evolving collection of the National Museum of China contains treasures from Chinese civilization through the ages. The collection includes an ever expanding range from Yin Shang oracle bone to Lunar soil sample, converges into an ever-continuing story of Chinese civilization.
