To make it stand out and deliver this second-floor space a unique new look, design team use wood grain and plants to bring the bare concrete interior alive. The life-sized lion lamp and hanging greenery create a hideaway vibe in this midtown salon while mixing a sense of the wild with clean modern lines. Spaces are arranged with functions defined, as a T-shaped island seating area and tool storage cabinets are designed considering natural light and customer privacy, making hairdressers work flow smooth.

As the salon sits in a competitive commercial area where seconds count, design team use Lotos plaster on the reception and bar counters to reduce working hours. Coping with Taiwans humid climate, such water-resistant plaster also prevents efflorescence. The tasteful gray tone creates a soft visual feeling under the effect of light, making customers more relaxed. The warm wood grain lies between the rough gabion wall, bare steel bars, and soft curved sofa and seats, balancing the tone and visual weight.
In this second-floor space where the window view is overwhelmed by shop signs, the window view is mirrored to present an echoing visual effect. In addition to the hanging light fixtures and plants, the hairdressing mirrors are supported by only two points as if suspended between seats. The combination of hanging objects and transparent glasses provides a see-through visual effect and makes the space appear larger. For example, the iron grid window next to the sofa area adds a sense of openness.
The project started in September 2020 in Taoyuan and finished in November 2020 in Taoyuan
The designer remove the ceiling layer to reduce visual oppression and use the hanging shelvings with light fixtures and plants above the reception and seating area to render a calm ambience. They also retain a see-through effect while dividing the spaces, reinforcing the independence of the T-shaped working area. The beveled reception counter corner ensures ample space; the same practice is used on the bookshelves, storage cabinets, with a mirror installed on the beveled corner to expand the visual space.
In the midtown second-floor hidden space, in order to create a contrasting sense of stepping into outdoors, the gabion wall is placed at the entrance, along with the rusted steel bars and stones to form a remarkable visual highlight versus the popular fresh and lighthearted store decor. With the natural wood, staghorn ferns, and various plants that bring the rainforest atmosphere into the space, the design emphasizes the positive influence of natural elements and echoes the green urban theme.
Inspired by the owners love of the lion-shaped lamp while utilizing the privacy of the second-floor space, our design brings the jungle flair into this urban space through natural elements such as green plants, wooden floor and tables, allowing customers to enjoy an experience of secret adventure. Extending the masculine imagery of the king of beasts, the gabion wall with exposed steel bars and concrete present a raw natural vibe, creating a secluded retreat contrasting with a bustling area.
