Community Center for Zhubo Design CO., LTD.
The project is a community center built for Poly Group, and it needs to be used as a sales center in the early stage. Architecture uses a continuous wall across the site, with a winding trend, staggered left and right, as if folded. The linear and zigzag wall not only shapes the garden, but also serves as the supporting structure itself, creating a coherent, column-free interior space.

"All in one go" is the highest state of Chinese painting since ancient times. We use a continuous wall to cut across the site. The linear and zigzag wall not only shapes the garden, but also serves as the supporting structure itself, creating a coherent indoor column-free space. at the same time, the corridor space that runs through the north and the south connects three scattered courtyard spaces in one go. Therefore, the building is also called "Folding Garden".
public service building, community center, Zhubo design, garden building, special-shaped building
The folding garden is covered by fluctuating flowing bricks, resembling a mountain in the forest. When the sun rises higher than the tree, shines on the flowing wall, there will appear a sequence of the light: gorgeous forest, shining green square, gorgeous straight eave, shining sinking courtyard. With the sun light, we sculptured a beautiful full viewed space scenery into a free geometry mountain.
Due to the limited cost of the project and the heavier historical context, we have been trying to find a value standard between economy and practicality, so as to more accurately convey the atmosphere of the architect‘s ideal cultural place and make the space available for better service.
The project started in 2017 in Beijing and finished in 2018.
The courtyard is built around a straight central axis, and the internal and external relations of the three-entry courtyard are interchanged along the central axis. The one-stop path to the garden not only increases the user's travel distance , but also presents different visual experiences of the same garden from different angles—just as "there is a landscape in the garden, and there is a garden in the landscape".
Folding garden inherits the historical context of the site. The fundamental values of low-carbon, environmental protection and energy conservation in the building are dealt with in a way of dialogue with nature stance. Due to the scarcity and preciousness of land resources, the building also uses sunken courtyards to shape space, respects a free and open space value system, and uses this to organize community and urban public life.
Folding Garden is located in Beijing. How to inherit the traditional royal construction of the site, and at the same time make a clever translation of the huge garden system in a relatively compact space, is what architect are trying to answer in this "Garden Making Practice" the question is. The project hope to use pure geometric form to construct a place full of natural tension in the "folding garden".
