Residential Building for Kiryu Construction Co., Ltd.
This house was planned in an old residential area. It is designed to change the uniform cityscape in cooperation with the old cityscape. The outer wall is made of wood painted in light gray. The weathered-colored houses match the streets of old houses. The floor plan of this house is characterized by a courtyard on the ground floor and a roof terrace on the second floor. The two gardens create a private space. People living in this house feel the nature outside while staying indoors. This house, where you can feel nature in your daily life, realizes a comfortable life.

The planned site is located in an old residential area where many houses are densely lined up. It is a private house where a family of four lives. For the outer wall, the wooden outer wall material was lightly colored in gray to harmonize with the cityscape. The color that seems to have changed over time fits into the old townscape. The composition of the house made two gardens. The garden creates a private space.

Traditional wooden construction method
Many of the old residential areas are densely populated. The impact of architecture on the cityscape is great. I created a good cityscape and thought of a house where you can feel nature.
Construction started in 2017 in Niigata, Japan. Completed in 2018.
On the first floor, we created a courtyard surrounded by a concrete wall. On the second floor, we made a roof terrace and surrounded it with a wooden lattice and an outer wall. All the rooms have been placed in these two gardens. The garden creates a private space. There is no need for blindfolds such as curtains. The connection with the outside will be strengthened positively. I thought that feeling nature in everyday life was an open house.
We built a courtyard and a roof terrace, and thought about balancing the contradictions of openness and privacy. We have verified how to take in light and wind many times. Therefore, we have realized openness and a private space.
Many houses are lined up in old residential areas in urban areas. The surrounding houses are all built at the same time. The exterior is made of similar industrial material. In an old residential area, I wanted to change the uniform cityscape while cooperating with the cityscape. Even in a residential area in an urban area, I thought of a house that feels nature.
