A high ceiling structure between two stories improves the public area’s ventilation and lighting. A pair of invisible transparent wings have taken replaced the heavy chandeliers, a gift to show respect and admiration for the hostess who has always been devoted to the charity of saving stray animals. The boundless view of the 270 degree floor-to-ceiling windows is kept, echoing the furniture, artistic installation and lighting. That will make the mass less awkward and create a fluid rhythm.
Hui Xie, Healthy Housing, Elegance, Warmth
Faced with the space’s original relatively heterogeneous structure, poor ventilation and lighting on the upper right side, and a large volume of structural columns, the designer has struck the balance between large and small spaces and met occupants’ demands by dismantling space structure through functional layering and scenario-based presets.
To better utilize the aisle’s original fragmented and long space, a work area, a reading area and a play area are respectively built up in the aisle outside the children's rest space, while enabling adults to always be nearby to accompany the children. Given many stray animals adopted by the hostess, the cat house, dog house and bird house are situated in the roof garden, where animals have access to plenty of open space, sufficient lighting, and ventilation, giving them a healthy environment to grow up.
The project is located in Chengdu, China, started in October 2020 and completed in June 2022.
An electric skylight is installed above the workspace, utilizing the chimney effect to bring in light and fresh air. Besides, radiant heating and cooling is used to control the temperature in the space, while the circulation of fresh air through the fresh air system ensures a constant temperature and humidity environment that is clean, energy efficient, noise reducing and safe, making the healthy home more pleasant and livable.
The hostess is a loving philanthropist. She hopes that her future residence can embody the taste of life, aesthetic appeal and bear the various demands of family contact, self-solitary space, hosting guests, and being close to nature. Within this context, the designer matched the hostess's spiritual world full of tenderness and made purity, elegance and exquisiteness the key words of the overall design of the space.
According to the designer, a residence is a kind of vehicle for living dreams, with a strong capacity for absorbing the residents' thoughts, memories, way of life, and interpersonal interactions. Therefore, the guiding principle of this case is to return to the life essence featured by health, elegance and warmth, while also achieving the resonance of art and the echo of dreams.
