Residence for Dialogue Design Studio
Through communication, the design team found that their initial design intention coincided with the feelings given to them by the client. The design team believes that the natural beauty of the building materials should be preserved as much as possible. The stone looks vibrant because of the texture of the holes on the surface, while the warm oak looks more vivid without decoration. The interaction between the client and the couple in the color-coordinated space is like a bass cello tone, calm and elegant, and delicate.

The selection of building materials is a consideration of 'restoring the nature of raw materials'. The design team chose four elements: stone, steel, wood, and leather to create this space. Firstly, the stone wall is the base of the public area, then steel and oak present the details, and finally, leather embellishes the space. Neutral colors are also used throughout the room, and furnishings keep the space tonally harmonious and visually concentrated. The design team plans a logical layout according to the wind direction, sunlight, and thermal environment, as well as the long shape of the apartment.
Higher floor, fireplace, cello, neutral colors, Canada.
Building materials: Travertine, oak, steel plate, leather. The materials used in the space are pure, which is also the main idea the designers want to express. The characteristics of the building materials determine the scale they can be presented. Stone is on the facade of the entrance, fireplace, and dining room, thus shaping the tone of the space. Steel panels as shelves and bookshelves, in contrast to the stone walls. Finally, the warmth of oak and the orange tones of leather express the real emotion of the space.
The greatest challenge of this project is the construction quality and time control. The site is 403.3 square meters of the newly completed apartment, and the large area must be finished within 10 months. The requirement tests the precision of the construction drawings and the scheduling of the project. During the construction period, many teams were working on projects at the same time, such as masonry and carpentry on site. Meanwhile, cabinetry that is not on site is also being worked on. Only according to the precise construction drawings prepared in advance can the finished products be installed on-site in a seamless manner.
The project finished in July 2021 in Taiwan.
In the modern-style residence, the design team takes the characteristics of the building materials to present a suitable environment for the family and properly plan the layout. The public and private areas are arranged diffusely, with the public area in the center and the private area on the left and right. The public area is in an open plan, and the furniture is placed in a way that there are no sides and no interruptions, so that the walkways are maintained. The spacious planning can not only enhance the vision but also satisfy the gathering.
The space is made of travertine, oak, steel, and leather to create the most comfortable temperature and distance. In addition, the texture of the building materials is like the tone of a cello, full and unobtrusive, which coincides with the impression of the couple. The site is on the 23rd floor, and the designers consider the climate of Taiwan as well as external factors such as monsoons, high temperature, and high humidity to create a comfortable space with ventilation and cooling. The comprehensive planning allows the residence to be a great living environment, to be energy efficient, and reduce the carbon footprint.
The project is inspired by the design team's 'observation of the client' and 'response to the architecture'. The client is a thoughtful and delicate couple, calm, and has an artistic background. They give the designers the impression of a cello tone, always relaxing and giving pleasant positive feedback. The architectural response is planned logically, including the base conditions and physical environment. Based on these two cores, the designers form a sophisticated modern residence for a family of four to live in for a long time.
