Music Hall for K-M-T
Ideareve Ikegami was designed in collaboration with the local community, conducting research and focus groups to ensure that every aspect met the needs of musicians. Designers wanted to reflect the beauty of the surrounding hills and created communal spaces for musicians to gather, socialize, and build relationships. Their goal was to create a hub of creativity and community, where musicians could thrive and grow. They believe that music has the power to transform lives, and they're proud to have created a space that reflects this belief.

The mandate was to design a facility where residents can gather and study music in a variety of hybrid spaces. The reinforced concrete structure was designed to accommodate a music hall, practice rooms, soundproofed residential rental units, and a penthouse. The music hall and its auditorium occupies a strategic place. Entered via a vestibule and foyer it creates a circulation zone that blurs the lines between the hills of the external landscape and the vibe of creativity that awaits inside.

The building is a reinforced concrete structure. All rental residential units have a soundproof living room. The foyer is embraced by three brass-coloured, stainless steel diagonal walls, and the interior of the hall is encased in acoustic reflectors, with large walls that collectively form an abstract diagonal shape.
The challenge was to solve the problem of providing privacy while opening up music activities to the community in a historically and culturally significant location. We addressed this challenge by creating a circulation space that crosses both the interior and exterior, while also pursuing a building form that symbolizes musical rhythm.
Location:Ikegami, Ota-ku,Tokyo, Japan The project started in October 2017 and Completed in May 2021
Ideareve Ikegami is a facility where the town community can gather and study music in a variety of hybrid spaces. Residents of sound-proofed rental homes are able to practice their music skills without worries for the sound-leaking. The music hall and all the common spaces are eligible for music performances. In Ideareve Ikegami residents and the town, community can freely express their creativity.
Ikegami Honmonji is one of the most important temples of the Nichiren sect, dating back to the 13th century, and its history spans many years. Our task was to create a new community space that coexists with the cultural heritage at the foot of the temple. We sought to explore a new program facility where residents can continue to live while practicing, appreciating, and receiving music lessons, and also have the opportunity to present their music.
What inspired this design most is the unique location at the foot of Ikegami Honmonji temple and the surrounding hilly landscape. This inspired us to incorporate a mountainous topography effect into the geometrical volume of the building.
