Residential Apartment for CHING I SHIN Design
The design draws from the owner's preference for dark wood textures, translating them into a palette of black, gray, and white. Thread board and stretched leather fabric extend the detailing of the original space, while a restrained use of wood texture refines the overall atmosphere. A strategic division of movement defines internal and external zones, with a door marking the transition. The living area remains open for communication, while the private spaces offer a sense of retreat and security.

The color in the space is taken from the dark wood texture favored by the owner. Through the design, it is transformed into the basic color of the space composed of black, gray and white. Combined with the board and stretched leather fabric, and with local wood texture, it sets off the overall elegant atmosphere, giving a refreshing family space.

By symmetry and extension to enlarge the sense of space, which integrates classical aesthetic consciousness, and with black, gray, white main color rendering crisp modern temperament. The TV wall breaks through the structural beams and columns and visually extends to the whole wall, presenting simplicity and rationality in black and stone. The master bedroom and bathroom also continue this design concept, presenting spatial integrity. The lighting uses box lights, wall lights and indirect light, which can be freely switched with the atmosphere, and the appearance and color can be integrated into the integrity of the space.
There are many large structural columns and beams in this old house. For example, the living room has structural columns in the porch and TV wall. The former combines mirror shoe cabinet to achieve effective storage and amplification, while the latter breaks through visual limitations by the extension of stone and black door panel. In addition, the ceiling has a beam that runs through the whole room, which is used as the boundary between rooms in the private field, and the block of dining room and living room is cleverly cut out in the public field, and the ceiling of the dining room is selected to be flush with the girder, so as to contain the circuit and air conditioning pipeline of the whole room.
The project started in April 2022 and finished in February 2023 in Taiwan.
The entrance porch removes unsuitable compartments, and the shoe cabinet is planned under and on both sides of sleeping bed to facilitate the use of access line. The moving lines in living room, dining room and kitchen are connected, and the kitchen is also shielded from the lampblack through the glass sliding door. The family can enjoy the communication together in public block. The private area is separated from the storage room and connected to the public toilet line for access to cleaning supplies. The owner expects that the master bedroom can enjoy the comfort of hotel, therefore, taking the activity line as consideration, the spare parts cabinet is set up, a low TV wall cabinet is planned to connect the simple makeup table, the wardrobe is set on the side of the main bed, and the black glass door is used to give the sense of privacy. In addition to the wardrobe, the children's room needs to have sufficient space for books and desks.
The design scheme focuses on the optimization of pattern and the balance of adjusting the proportion of each space, so that the dynamic line and function are then restructured to create a more in line with the use of habits, which is more spacious and perspective of the home environment. For example, the dining area is changed to a smaller dining table according to the house, thus giving more space to the living room vision, and removing the porch compartment to increase the transparency of public area.
The old layout allowed the dining room to be hidden in the walkway, the public blocks could not be easily connected by moving lines, and the air conditioning and ventilation were hindered, as well as the uneven distribution of space in each room. By rearranging the pattern, leveling the wall, breaking through the restrictions of beams and columns, enlarging the sense of space, and boldly integrating the dark color of the owner's preference, to create a stable and personal style of home space.
