The beauty of wabi-sabi lies in restraint, valuing imperfections like knots in wood and fissures in stone. In this project, reclaimed railway wood, marked by time, stands as a bridge between past and present. Its rugged texture contrasts with smooth modern materials, telling a story of nature's poetry. Above the dining table, a curved lighting fixture flows like a cloud, casting shifting light patterns that create a serene, layered ambiance, reminiscent of mountain ranges and nature's quiet embrace.

The project stands out for its meticulous attention to detail. A key feature is the versatile study design, using Moru glass and a white iron frame for a light, transparent look. The study can adapt to various functions, from a guest room to a tranquil workspace, offering a sense of calm and belonging. The interpretation of wabi-sabi is also prominent, with discarded railway wood repurposed in the entryway, and a hand-painted gradient wall resembling mountain ranges. These elements blend nature and craftsmanship, creating a harmonious, transcendent space.
Japandi, Light Tone, Open Plan, Minimalism, Eco-friendly Material.
The project blends special paint, glass, wood, laminate flooring, and iron to embody natural simplicity and functional aesthetics. The light color palette creates a soft, airy atmosphere while highlighting the natural textures of the wood. Glass diffuses natural light, casting it onto stone-like painted walls, evoking the beauty of morning mist over mountains. Iron and laminated flooring balance visual appeal with practicality, offering modernity and durability. The space is brought to life with dynamic, intricate details that enhance its serene yet vibrant essence.
The project, made of natural materials, posed challenges during planning, particularly with ceiling beams. Larger beams could create visual pressure, affecting comfort. To address this, the designer used light to soften the beams, creating a more open, unobstructed ambiance through carefully placed lighting and shadow effects. Additionally, the stone-pattern coating required several adjustments to its color and texture to achieve a layered, natural look, enhancing both the aesthetic and tactile experience of the space.
The project finished in April 2023 in Taiwan.
Throughout the project, the homeowner deeply appreciated the designer's professionalism and dedication, building a strong foundation of trust. As the project progressed, the homeowner was thrilled to see their 'dream home' evolve from blueprint to reality. Upon completion, they admired the designer's creativity and execution, especially the natural warmth and harmonious ambiance of the space. The thoughtful color coordination, material selection, and seamless flow all contributed to a peaceful, welcoming environment where the family found a true sense of belonging.
'Serene Moon' embodies a harmonious balance of colors and tranquility, reflecting the homeowner's desire for a pure, comfortable lifestyle. Combining Japanese wabi-sabi with Scandinavian minimalism, the design creates a serene, cozy space. The light-toned palette, interplay of wood, and natural light foster warmth. The versatile study, with moru glass and ironwork, seamlessly integrates into the open-plan space. Hidden doors preserve privacy while maintaining visual flow. Every material choice, from reclaimed wood to hand-painted walls, speaks to authenticity and depth.
Inspired by Japanese wabi-sabi aesthetics and Scandinavian minimalist design, the space embodies a warm Japandi home. The homeowner seeks a serene, understated atmosphere, prioritizing functionality and practicality. The designer incorporated large expanses of stone and wood, highlighting the authentic textures of natural materials in line with wabi-sabi's reverence for time and nature. Soft Nordic tones were introduced as accents, creating a tranquil and inviting space that fosters relaxation and connection with the natural world.
