The First floor is an under water experience and the Second floor is an above water experience. The underwater experience includes a light organ as stage backdrop, DMX LED back lit motled fish scale glass bar, Fish shaped DMX LED silk lanterns, Fish tanks in the window openings, and the entire space is illuminated with H2O effect lights. On the second floor, thin vertical strips of mirror at random spacing are imbedded in the forest mural wall. Laser lights and movement are reflected in the mirror strips and exaggerate the sense of movement while also suggesting the sunlight through the trees

Unique Properties

On the First floor we have a light organ as stage backdrop, a DMX LED back lit motled glass bar, and the entire space is illuminated with H2O effect lights. On the second floor, thin vertical strips of mirror at random spacing are imbedded in the forest mural wall. Laser lights and movement are reflected in the mirror strips and exaggerate the sense of movement in the space while also suggesting a much larger forest beyond.

Production Technology
DMX LED glass bar, star light ceiling, DMX LED fish shaped bamboo and silk lanterns, light organ behind the stage, Thin strips of mirror imbedded in the wall exaggerate the sense of movement, H2O lights create the under water effect, marble sculpture and cement render bubbles wrap the columns in the center. Cement plaster fish scales covering one wall as though a giant fish is swimming by to bring guests into the scale of the experience. Blue, Orange and white shebunken goldfish upholstery print. Fish tanks infill windows on the first floor.
Design Challenge
Locating local materials, creating a unique, pleasing and playful environment like no other in Saigon that also appealed to the local culture. The spaces were also small for a bar and the spaces have a column in the middle. Numerous studies were explored before deciding to develop the plan with the bar on both floors taking the area where the view to the stage is blocked by the columns, thereby ensuring that every client has full view of the stage.
Project Duration
Design started in March of 2013 in Ho Chi Minh City and is progressing through construction documents presently. Expected construction in 2015.
Operation Flow
The establishment offers two different environments in one place. Normally, one bar will have live music and the other will have karaoke. In both spaces, movement and the dynamic are part of the design and experience. On the first floor the lighted elements continually change and respond to the music. On the second floor, the vertical mirror strips reflect the lights and movement similar to sunlight shining between the trees in the forest. The second floor showcase exhibits musical instruments, bathing suits and trophies of famous people.
Research
The meaning and implications of the word Lido. Available and inexpensive local materials and craftsmanship capability except for the DMX lighting controls and LED lights. Vietnam also has a unique gentlemen's club culture and I wanted to integrate this personal intellectual provocation into the design in a playful suggestive way as evidenced by the shapes of the bars, the bubble column and erotic sculpture column.
