Residential House for HOZO Interior Design
Designed for children playground and a long-term residence, designers utilize spatial layout and colors to create comfortable space for children and adults alike, so family members want to stay at home. Take bookstores as a reference and create two wooden bookshelves. Surrounded by furniture and books. Symmetry in bookshelves offers a sense of stability amongst open and organic public spaces. Order and flexibility coexist well in the space to support creativity, mobility, and stability around books.

The family of three lives in a space of 220 square meters, so the child can run and play freely. Moving from townhouse to apartment, they prioritize the sense of space and activity to be no less than previously enjoyed. Double sound insulations avoid interruptions with neighbors and create a carefree environment for the childhood without conflicts with neighboring families.
To reduce corridors, a storage room is created at the end of passway, so that storage needs would not be greatly compromised by bookshelves. A blackboard is placed in the passway as well to separate the space into different colors. Fun spaces are created around the corner to increase interactions with kitchen. The kitchen is opened up for a circular route to connect with dining room, and cabinets for appliances also extend the kitchen.
The project started in April 2018.June in Zhubei City and finished in 2018.October
To use indoor spaces more effectively, we modify previously inappropriate layout. A cloakroom is created close to front door for convenience when leaving or returning the house. We remove some compartments to expand the living room, as the room besides it blocks natural lighting on the higher level of building. Instead of placing sofa against walls or lower cabinets, more empty spaces and movable furniture are available for activities.
For people to stay longer, it is important to create a comfortable tone without pressure. Concrete and marble textures offer gray and white layers, supported by wooden tones. Even though family/ childhood is a major design consideration, we do not define spaces with childish colors. Mauve tone in bedrooms, for example, is mixed with gray to ensure tranquility in wooden spaces.
Low birth rates is an inevitable issue in Taiwan, and parents want to spend more time with their children. The client hopes to create appropriate environment for their only child in the new home to “engage with peers”. They hope the new residence has sufficient and suitable space for activities with other kids and family members. We remove fancy design, bright colors, and excessive decorations. Open spaces are created for flexible and organic functions in a sleek and human-oriented design.
