Residence for KARBIZ INTERIOR DECORATION DESIGN CO, LTD.
Since the client is passionate about antiques and vintage items and wished to reduce waste while refurbishing the site, the design team utilized a minimalistic design language and set a rugged, soft loft undertone for this renovation. In order to construct a retro ambiance, the designers selected organic coatings to bring forth a vintage, mottled touch. The marrying of subtle, restrained chromaticity, nature, and indirect lighting and the reusing of objects tell the tale of design bringing about a different kind of value in the social ecosystem.

Instead of taking down all of the original furnishings, the design team kept the cabinets and embellished them while taking the clients interest in vintage clothing into consideration, hence the decision of making furniture out of discarded hardwood, achieving the teams goal of reusing resources and creating value for old materials. This environment-friendly way of thinking also adds a more colorful tone to the retro industrial residence and creates a minimal yet warm atmosphere.

While renovating the 25-year-old residence, the design team faced the challenge of how to remodel the old structure with modern techniques. Due to innovations made in the field of construction, the techniques used then are largely different than techniques nowadays, but because of this, the design team was able to study the craftsmanship of 20 years ago. After close analysis, the designers integrated modern methods and brought forth an atmosphere different than before with a comprehensive design language.
The project was finished in May 2018 in Taipei, Taiwan.
In order to shape the retro-industrial style presented in this project, the design team utilized the original form of Pandomo concrete, the coarseness of plaster, and the natural knots and color of hardwood flooring. During construction, the team brought the client along to a vintage timber store in search of lumber suitable for building lattice for the dining room and old wooden planks for the dining table and coffee table. A vintage ambiance of the 50s is hence present throughout the whole house.
The designers created a retro soft loft styled residence immersed in a humanistic atmosphere, utilizing the fusion of different materials and colors low in saturation. A special coating was applied onto the ceiling of the living room after leveling to further differentiate colors and space. The ceiling together with the Pandomo walls and purposefully dyed hardwood floor pack the residence full of a retro industrial impression. At the same time, the open dining and kitchen area consists of large amounts of wooden elements, and with a bar counter as a medium, the space is rich in functionality.
the design team decided on a retro industrial style based on the clients love for vintage items and the clients wish to keep the original wooden furniture. The team created a brand new living style under the guidelines of not dismantling the structure on a large scale and integrating the collection of the client. Other than having a retro tone, the overall style also gives a vintage, mottled touch to the atmosphere of the space which accentuates the clients collection and taste.
