In response to the call for old buildings renovation, Shenzhen Overseas Chinese Town (OCT) Low Carbon Cities Programme, as known as The Ecojoy City, extensively employs recyclable metal materials, environmentally friendly floors, wall materials and wall hangings to design boutique hotels, taking advantage of the limited height of the original space and the thick column grids, which perfectly indicates the concept of low carbon supplemented by business, fashion and recreation.

This project uses a lot of environmentally friendly materials. Some walls are designed with rustic panels and grass wallpaper to achieve a beautiful decorative effect, but also reflect the concept of green. The introduction of greenery into the interior creates a visual blend of interior and exterior. Save on renovation costs by sourcing decorative materials locally to suit your local needs.
The difficulty of this project is how to design this project as low-carbon, supplemented by business, fashion, leisure, and combined with the culture of OCT to create a boutique hotel, and how to enable hotels to conduct low-carbon operations and guide consumers to low-carbon consumption.
The project finished in June 2019 in Shenzhen.
First, this project improves the quality of the ambient by using large-scale of green, energy-saving, non-polluting new decoration materials, and recycling of metal resources. Second, the project established a water metering system for recording and analysis of water use, and introduced green plants into the interior. This project used recycled high-density polyethylene for grass pavement tiles, which can reduce storm water runoff and reduce surface water pollution. This project reduces waste of resources and promotes the development of the green building industry.
This project is a micro-integration of multiple use functions. It aims to promote the surrounding commercial atmosphere, provide commercial support for the international low-carbon conference hall, provide visitors with a choice of leisure and resting places, so that visitors can experience the green quality of life. The main design concept of this project is low carbon, complemented by business, fashion and leisure, to create a boutique hotel with the culture of OCT. The project promotes low-carbon behavior in hotels and leads consumers to low-carbon consumption.
The Ecojoy City is located in Shenzhen, aiming at incorporating OCT's rich experience as a national leader in new urbanization into the development concept of "low carbon and green", and creating a fully functional service package for Shenzhen International Low Carbon City. At the beginning of the project, it was determined that "low-carbon" is the main focus, "business, fashion, leisure" as a supplement, combined with the idea of creating a high-end boutique hotel as the design blueprint.
