Kyanyuan is a garden clubhouse located on the top floor of an old business building by the West Lake. Standing on the top of it, you can overlook the West Lake and the Baochu Pagoda and the entire Wulin Road from afar. In the prosperous Hangzhou city, this secluded garden, which incorporates various elements of natural ecological forms throughout the space, strives to redefine a subtle, tranquil and contemporary leisure space, with a feeling of " A real hermit lives in the bustling place ".
Clubhouse, mansion, private garden, Chinese style, traditional
The club is decorated with solid wood, tiles, cobblestones, self-leveling cement and large area of white texture to create an ethereal temperament which resembles an elegant Chinese painting. The designer combines traditional and modern, coarse and exquisite elements altogether, with rich details stimulating people’s imagination and perception. The appropriate embellishments epitomize a sense of Zen and is full of oriental charm.
The project explores the figurative expression of time in space and uses the technique of "borrowing scenery" to blur the boundary between interior and exterior. Technically speaking, building renovation is quite demanding for bearing capacity. In the early stage, the whole floor slab was reinforced with steel plates in order not to affect the use of other floors. To create a garden clubhouse, the shallow topsoil planting was also experimented, allowing the greening coverage to be completed. The project began designing in March 2018 and will be completed by January 2020.
When you are inside the club, you can enjoy different sceneries which all provide you with inner calm and harmony. The space layout is strict and orderly, with dining area, tearoom, guest room area, office area, etc. Each area is independent of each other while also gives you a sense of coherence. The indoor and outdoor courtyards are also interspersed and complementing each other with a scenic beautifulness.
The project is located near the beautiful West Lake. Inspired by nature, the designer intersects traditional Chinese gardens with landscape paintings, with a flexible layout featuring reality and emptiness, opening and closing, distance and proximity, while integrating tradition and modernity to create a modern space with a human touch, reflecting the ecological temperament of the space in all aspects.
The design is inspired by the poem " For a Guest " by Du Fu, a well-known Chinese poet. " North and south of my cottage winds spring water green; I see but flocks of gulls coming from day to day.”, which depicts the beautiful and isolated scenery of the poet’s residence, while the rest of the poem describe the poet's joy and hospitality when a guest visit. The overall design is simple and bright, with a quiet and low-profiled style, which is just the feeling that the owner wants to create.
