Luxury Urban Resort Hotel for Beyond Design
Nanjing, where the project sits, is reputed as the ancient capital of six dynasties. The project is located within Zhongshan Mountain National Park, nestling against mountains and adjoining lakes. Local culture and history are integrated into bricks and tiles, which reflects modern people's pursuit of returning to original simplicity of life. Based on the natural setting and local historical context, the project created a destination that features the style of China's Republican Period (1912-1949), integrates with natural landscapes and provides diversified vacation experiences.

The project drew on the fabrics and material language of the old city wall built in Ming Dynasty. It also made use of the elevation difference of the mountain landform to retain key vegetation within the site. Besides, the design introduced the waterscape of the lake on the west side, and connected functional spaces like the entrance, greeting area and experiential area in an organic manner. Moreover, platforms were designed to extend interior spaces outwards and provide socializing functions.

With consideration into the hotel's operation and management, the design minimizes the coverage of the hard pavement and adopts permeable materials for hard pavement. The infinite swimming pool is equipped with a misting system, which not only supports summer outdoor activities at the pool but also helps increase humidity around plants to create a better natural habitat. In addition, the infinite swimming pool blends with the lake view, generating a sense of extension.
Plants were grew in hot summer, so measures like sun shading and nutrition dripping were taken to guarantee their survival.

Material samples and construction technology standards were confirmed at construction drawing stage.
The project is the landscape redesign and improvement for a resort hotel nestled in Zhongshan Mountain National Park. The shanty town near Pipa Lake has been demolished and transformed for many times. The architectural facades, interiors and landscape of the resort hotel were redesigned and improved to cater to the operational demands of a high-end resort hotel, and to upgrade it from the single function of accommodation to a destination with diversified spiritual and cultural experiences.
