Office and Exhibition Space for Tai + Associates
X5 Charity is a multi purposed space, comprising a shop, an exhibition area, a seminar space, a studio, a lounge bar, and an office with meeting rooms. Inspired by the character X, which means multiplying, the linear lighting and metal are introduced from the water fall located at the terrace to the indoor areas. It also extends from the first floor ceiling to the basement floor, where the lounge with a wine cellar is located. Shop shelves, designed as a continuous metal, extends to the stainless staircase leading to the basement. Semi-transparency methods for connecting spaces are designed.

The design team used one of the characters in X5 Charity Foundation, the letter "X", to present the meaning and shape of "multiply". The space uses large amounts of lightning techniques combined with metal fabrics, all with a unique 60-degree angle. The “X” shaped metal extends from the front outdoor area to the indoor space, and also from the first-floor ceiling and folds into a staircase, and leads visitors to the basement area. The metals cut through the warm wood and combine the steadiness of stone materials. The “X” shaped metal combines different spaces and builds up the function of the X5 Charity Foundation.
The most challenging part the team faced is that the space is planned to be a complex space to meet diverse needs. To make each space unique but not apart from one another is one of the challenges the team faces. However, the team uses lots of techniques to show the transparency of the area and the matching of different materials. Also, the project needed to be delivered in a short period of time, which really made teamwork and communication more important than ever for a design team.
The project is located in Taipei, finished and started operating in February 2021.
The project is a makeover from an old building space in Taipei city. The team uses contemporary design to connect the old space to a new meaning and brings the space a new life. After X5 Charity Foundation members have been using the space for over half a year, the design team receives multiple positive feedbacks.
The project is a complex space used for multiple needs, it’s mainly used as an office for a charity foundation, but also has large areas to hold exhibitions. It has been redesigned from an old space and given a new life. The design team makes each space connected to each other, but at the same time gives the space different meanings. The “X” shape metal connects form the outdoor areas to the indoor area and from the top ceiling to the underground basement hidden space. Now X5 Charity Foundation uses the space for regular office needs, and can be turned into a conference space for business needs or even gathering space for family and friends.
This project is a compound space for the X5 Charity Foundation. Inspired by the main purpose of this space, which is a space for people to connect, the designer uses the extension of the letter ”X” multiple times in the space from the entrance hall to the whole ceiling.
