Villa for Elvancent Design Co.,Ltd.
Two symmetrical buildings combine to form a square floor plan, surrounded by circular trails paved with gravel, and thus the central axis of circular heaven and square earth emerges naturally. The ecological pond at the entrance, flowers and trees in the garden, the large fair-faced concrete walls of the buildings, the slanted roofs that look like an eagle spreading its wings and takes flight, iron-gray metal grilles on the facade reminiscent of tree shadows, and the oval entrance and exit-all of these are embodiments of how the five elements in fengshui interact and interplay.

Inspired by nature, the architect bases the design on the interplay of the five elements to initiate the good circle of heaven, humanity and earth, applying how the universe works and circulates to the spatial design.
Elvancent Design Co., Ltd., LIN CHU-SHIUAN, Villa, Five elements, Fengshui
Transformation of circular heaven and square earth is manifested in the layout of the structure and the garden. Two symmetrical buildings combine to form a square floor plan, surrounded by circular trails paved with gravel, and thus the central axis of circular heaven and square earth emerges naturally. The ecological pond at the entrance, flowers and trees in the garden, the large fair-faced concrete walls of the buildings, the slanted roofs that look like an eagle spreading its wings and takes flight, iron-gray metal grilles on the façade reminiscent of tree shadows, and the oval entrance and exit—all of these are embodiments of how the five elements in fengshui interact and interplay, allowing traditional culture and wisdom passed down for a thousand years to be rendered and integrated in a refined and delicate fashion to give modern people a space to get away from the hustle and bustle of daily life and enable the mind to go in sync with environment.
The reception area and each room are thus mapped out in accordance with such thinking. In this way, a simple, serene living environment is made a reality, shaping a quiet, rustic spiritual domain. Lines of poems penned by poets a millennium ago are ingeniously incorporated into the guest house. By means of Western architectural theories, Chinese traditional fengshui is represented here and now in the 21st century in an old-yet-new way that begins with slow living and proceeds with LOHAS that looks to a future leisurely life.
The project started in June 2019 in Kenting, located in southern Taiwan, and finished in November 2019.
A distinctive, glamorous beauty is brought forth by shadows and reflections of light, trees and water. The concept of “a poem in a space, an element in a residence” continues into the interiors, with the design of the guestrooms based on the five elements and extending to the five senses—sight, hearing, taste, smell and touch—immersed in experience and transformation. An integrated recipe for the body, the mind and the spirit is provided in accordance with each guest’s condition and needs.
Be it agreeable, refreshing, energizing, quiet-but-not-lonely, luxurious or tasteful, all sixteen rooms feature distinct forms by means of such thoughtful arrangements as different lighting, colors, smells, music and surface materials. Diverse atmosphere, immersion and energy are offered to guests, making it possible for travelers, after restful immersion and intake of never-ending energy from nature, to set out again, like an eagle spreading its wings.
The owner seeks to create a manor-style guest house that is low-profile but refined, modern but traditional, on this scenic estate with its face to the sea and back to the mountains, integrating landscaping and mini-fengshui to adjust the mental, physical and spiritual magnetic field. Thus a unique getaway combining nature and aesthetic comes into being.
