Showflat for GuocoLand
The Wallich project is a two bedroom showflat for young working professionals. Located on level 60 of Singapore's tallest building, this apartment brings to mind the imagery of a boundless sky revealed upon breaking through the canopy of a concrete jungle. The condominium's namesake botanist Nathaniel Wallich was the inspiration behind the vision of a castle in the clouds built upon the grandiose buttress roots of wise old trees. Indeed, the building is in the vicinity of many conserved shophouses with rich heritage.

This project is a 2-bedroom in-situ showflat for young working professionals. A light colour scheme accentuates light that floods through the full-height windows running the length of the apartment. Dark-toned materials in areas facing away from the light creates a contrast that further highlights the brightness while also defining zones without walls. Gentle curves feature throughout, in a gesture that seems to wrap occupants in a soft embrace and also visually soften the space.

Though customised, all the built-in carpentry was designed to be cost-efficient. Materials chosen are readily available in the local market and design details are easily fabricated without any special equipment needed. They are also durable and withstand the wear and tear that a family with children would put the apartment through. For example, high-pressure laminates are used instead of veneer. As far as possible, and where it does not affect the design intent, the existing finishes and fittings were retained. This helps to keep the interior as sustainable as possible with minimal wastage generated.
The project started in April 2020 and finished in December 2021. It is located in Singapore.
Among the clouds, a home above the rest. Located on level 60 of Singapore’s tallest building, this apartment brings to mind the imagery of a boundless sky revealed upon breaking through the canopy of a concrete jungle. We turned to the condominium's namesake botanist Nathaniel Wallich for inspiration and found ourselves envisioning a castle in the clouds built upon the grandiose buttress roots of wise old trees. And indeed, the building is in the vicinity of many shophouses with rich heritage.
