Restaurant and Rooftop Lounge for Hans Kline
The Ridge Room lounge was inspired by the designer's love of mountain lodges found throughout the Blue Ridge Mountains. This penthouse location provides the rooftop lounge views across the Shenandoah Valley. The paneled walls, zinc bar and back-lit rainbow onyx create a warm environment, reminiscent of a cabin. The displays are filled with local memorabilia and the walls are covered with unique art. A custom mural contains a unique fireplace which lights the seating area with soft light. The furnishings are bistro tables and the seating lounge is centered around a custom Chesterfield sofa.

The Ridge Room entrance is located on top floor of the Hyatt Place, but has a private entrance called the Trophy Room. The dining area features brass tables with rustic oak seating, open glass windows, that look onto the expansive patio with mountain views. The Lounge area features low seating in front of a custom fireplace and mural. Two red-bottomed high tables provide additional seating beneath custom antler chandeliers. The far wall of the lounge area has the built-in display cabinets of our vintage lantern collection.

The bar is located on the fifth floor of a hotel, above and next to guest rooms, so additional soundproofing was installed inside the walls as well as in-between the floors. The lounge features a NanaWall, an opening glass wall system that opens the entire space directly onto the patio. The Davinci fireplace was specially made to remove the majority of the heat, to the point that the glass never gets hot. This is achieved by a powered vent on the roof and it allows the fireplace to run all day without affecting the comfort of the guests.
Since this project was going to introduce many new features to the area, certain elements of the Ridge Room had to be cleared by the city. Since the city didn't have any existing regulation regarding fire features or rooftop decks, the designer was required to make presentations to city officials that took safety as the primary consideration to ease their concerns.
The project began in 2019 and was completed in December 2021.
The Ridge Room offers intimate spaces and a rooftop view of the Blue Ridge Mountains.
The preparation for this design project began with visits to all Hyatt Places throughout Virginia, North Carolina and Pennsylvania to learn about the brand. The hotel owner did not want to go fully prototypical, a conceptual presentation was approved by Hyatt Place to make a semi-custom space on the top floor of the hotel for The Ridge Room.
The owner challenged the designer to develop a lounge concept that would reflect the local environment. The interior is influenced by local hunting cabins and ski chalets. The goal was to create a warm and charming space for the Hyatt Place hotel guests, while still making a space that represented the local culture.
