Archizeit Studio is the office of the architecture company with the same name. The construction of the office falls into the category of renovations and extensions and began with the renovation of an one level house located in the center of Chisinau. The renovation consisted of both, the reconfiguration of the interior space and the exterior appearance of the existing building and had several stages.
studio, architecture, reuse and adaptation, brick, wood, concrete, corten, shipping contaner, eclectic
One of the defining aspects of the project is the use of natural materials, processed by hand or recycled. For this reason, a metal container was brought as a extension. To complete the exterior work, the facade of the existing building was covered with corten steel plates. The existing facade was covered with a timber cladding screen, creating a new background for things to take place in front of it. Thus, wood, corten steel, exposed concrete and metal create a dynamic and contrasting composition.
The existing building was an ordinary building, with several rooms, with separate entrances, spaces that did not communicate with each other and fragmented interior, both functionally and aesthetically. Another problem was the insufficient lighting, some spaces did not receive any natural light at all. Also an inconvenience was the low height of the ceiling, which further accentuated the insufficient light and created an austere space. Therefore the main challenge was to reconfigure the space and solve all these inconveniences.
The project started in 2016 in Chisinau, Moldova and was finished in 2018.
The studio is quite open to the street, large windows make the inside of the studio visible to the people passing by making the place quite inviting. Many passersby ask about the buildings use and take pictures. There is one main entrance which distributes the flow within the building, the guest area, work spaces and bathroom, are in different parts of the building decreasing the intersection of flows.
The research process began with an analysis of the existing situation of the building in order to decide what can be saved and what needs to be demolished, rebuilt and added.Following the analysis, the decision was made to reconfigure the interior space, both by demolishing some interior walls and by building new partition walls and adding an extension.Next, solutions were sought to renovate the exterior of the building through the chosen materials and structural systems.
There was no specific inspiration for the project, the renovation was intended as a laboratory for design experiments which can be seen in the multitude of building materials and techniques used. In terms of interior design, the style is eclectic. An important feature is the multitude of techniques used manually to finish the walls. The finishes vary from apparently stamped concrete, decorative panels from metal bars, wall covered with river stones and brick.
