Boutique Store for MMC Design
Geometry of traditional religious buildings like the Parthenon and the Great Pyramid elements were used in this design. Based on the site's characteristics, geometric shapes are stacked to fulfill the store's basic functions for display, fitting, storage, etc. Besides, simple materials were adopted to highlight the incomparable power of geometry. Geometric aesthetics contains the secrets of the universe, and also expresses human's respect for nature. The time axis and eternal forms help stabilize the space's cycle, allowing customers to be emotionally immersed in the physical space.

The staircase, as a bridge connecting 1F and 2F, needs to guide consumers to the upstairs in an intriguing way. With rigorous proportions and geometric shapes, the stairs are enlarged step by step from the side and aerial views, thus creating a vertical, intensive and guiding visual focus whist creating a rhythmic aesthetic.

Conventional commercial spaces tend to adopt a variety of materials and colors to catch the eyes of consumers. However, excessively rich scenes may produce an adverse effect and waste resources. In light of this fact, this project employed wear-resistant and seamless micro cement, to simulate the texture of Pentelic marbles widely used in ancient Greek temples, and to prolong the life span of the space and effectively control construction cost.
The greatest challenge was how to break conventional commercial space design. Traditional commercial space design often centers on the space's marketing purposes or defines the space with a conventional or trendy style, which results in tedious space. For this project, the design team challenged the style and design of conventional commercial spaces, and conceived a more vivid space that allows customers to perceive the brand's values. In addition, how to express the unique character of the space through the selection of materials and colors was another challenge.
PROJECT DURATION: 2021.08.31-2022.05.09 Location: Hangzhou, China
The designers didn't deliberately divide the functional areas in the store, but used various geometric shapes to fulfill its functions such as display, fitting and storage. Symmetricalaxes at horizontal and vertical levels and the stairs at the end of the space show the aesthetics of geometry and order, and form a multi-dimensional physical space that offers an immersive experience and evokes customers' emotions.
Micro cement was applied to imitate the texture of Pentelic marbles widely utilized in ancient Greek temples. In this space formed by geometrical structures, lighting is used to introduce nature. Under the lighting, the porcelain-like delicate spatial texture and the red curved steel island forms a contrast in colors and materials, which endows the space with perceptible vitality in an artistic way. The simple colors and materials visually amplify the space, while also improving its sustainability.
Triangles and rectangles bring the space geometric changes while producing a certain order. Geometric aesthetics contains the secrets of the universe, and also expresses human's respect for nature and the spirit of exploration. By playing the game of "building blocks" from the perspective of children, the design team created a pure multi-dimensional space, which is a romantic expression of eternity via divine geometry.
