Residential for Tzu Chen Tuan
This design represents a clever interplay of architecture and psychology, where the panoramic seascape takes center stage, supported by a design that respects both the need for open, transformative space and the reassuring embrace of defined living areas. The balcony with its Jacuzzi and swing chair becomes an intermediary space, blending indoors with the outside, and highlighting structural safety as a key aspect of the installation.

The first step was the removal of the partition wall shared by the master bedroom and living room, replaced by a symbolic black arch frame paired with a low console. The master bedroom boasts large windows for sea viewing on one side and a full-length mirror wall with a suspended, swiveling black-framed mirror and wall-mounted rounded vanity on the other, creating dynamic light and shadow interplay as people move through.

Emphasizing low visual weight, the design utilizes a white, pale gray, and warm wood color palette. The furniture and soft furnishings are carefully chosen for their tactile differences, with rustic rattan weaving, thick wool felt sofas, and long-pile carpets enhancing the sensory experience.
The challenge was to maintain a sense of privacy and division without compromising the openness and integration of the sea view, creating a space that offers varied and stunning views from nearly every angle.
The project started in Jan. 2022 and finished in May. 2022 in China
The project avoids hard divisions, using black frames symbolically to delineate dynamic and static zones, striking a balance between expansive views and an unrestricted sense of openness.
Spatial psychology played a significant role in this project. Despite the broadest visual field achieved through an open treatment, the natural human need for order and security was addressed with symbolic divisions that maintain both visual flow and a sense of freedom.
The primary inspiration for this new two-bedroom single-story residence, enjoying a high floor and direct ocean views, was the expansive seascape visible from the property. This 60-square-meter space was designed with a small family's vacation needs in mind, aiming to enhance the sense of space without compromising the distinctiveness of each area while integrating the breathtaking ocean view into the interior.
