Three Section Compound for RIS Collective
Located in the countryside, this case is the inheritance of 2d generation's hometown return. Chinese architectural concepts are introduced under the Inspiration of Mandala Chart. The twisted traffic flow created by front storage areas with the core centrally placed satisfies the need of Feng Shui. The ambience is maintained through the symmetry, layered traditional layouts, and earth tones symbolizing soil's fruitfulness. The young homeowner's choice of the apartment room is conventional, much like Wang Da-hung's practice of mixing Chinese and Western elements.

Located in countryside, this project is the second generation's return to agriculture industry. Surrounded by farmland, the building's 1980s beams and columns form square walls. Inspired by the Mandala Chart, we introduce Chinese architectural concepts into the design.

The general tone uses earthy browns to represent fruitfulness of the soil. The main living area wall is emerald green, symbolizing the family's united business support. In the dining area, golden leaves drop from the ceiling reflect the topographic art and field view. The Chinese gathering ambience is maintained with marble veining in the western servery, guiding vision inward through cascading layers of detail.
Due to the existing plumbing system, as well as the consideration of Feng Shui, the relative positions of the room were restricted. The precise placement of the walls are set after distinguishing the respective relationships of the position. By placing the core space at the center, we can learn a centralized space that inwardly focuses towards the center and interconnected areas around it.
The design was completed in Changhua City, Taiwan, in November 2022. With specified combination, highlights the interdependent relationship between coldness, organic, order, and freedom, also supports personal characteristics and functional utility, symbolizing the harmonious coexistence of rationality and sensibility.
Due to Feng Shui considerations, the master bedroom couldn’t be connected to the walk-in closet and bathroom. Instead, the young homeowner prioritized a quiet computer room for practical use, complete with a futon for naps and relaxation after showers, while the bedroom was reserved solely for sleep. The tones and textures of the materials were carefully balanced to create harmony, with earthy tones and darker textures reflecting the essence of Chinese culture.
The traditional layout of courtyard houses features a winding path, with a wall composed of storage units serving as a screen. This design element functions to conceal and organize clutter. The extended and winding pathways enhance the grandeur of the residence. Not only is the integrity of the nine-square grid pattern maintained, but the spirit of elegant layered narratives is also embodied in the spatial design.
In an era of information overload, the young homeowner's choice of the apartment is safe and conventional, akin to architect Wang Da-hung's blend of Western and Chinese traditions in the Hong Ying Apartment. We expect to practice such tradition through a more modernized and a more down-to-earth method.
