Unique Properties

EBI Lab serves as a multifunctional space for bike display, sales, maintenance, and user experiences. Centered on art and technology, the design emphasizes environmental sustainability, technological innovation, and dynamism. The project not only functions as a vital hub in the urban transportation system but also stands as a showcase for the sustainable culture of the city.

Production Technology

The facade adopts corrosion resistant, weather resistant, and impact resistant mirror polished stainless steel as its main material. By reflecting the surroundings, it seamlessly blends reality and virtuality, creating a dreamy visual effect and enhancing interaction with the urban environment. Renewable materials and energy saving technologies, like eco friendly paints and energy efficient lighting, reduce environmental impact and underscore sustainable design principles applied to the project.

Design Challenge

The project tackles the challenge of achieving a cohesive layout and efficient flow in a multifunctional space with limited area. Through meticulous design, the integration of stairs and corridors creates seamless connections between functional zones, optimizing space utilization. The spiral staircase not only expands the display area on the facade but also introduces a distinctive architectural feature, offering a unique spatial experience and enhancing the overall flow design.

Project Duration

The project started in May, 2024, and will finish in October, 2025 in Beijing.

Operation Flow

The project emphasizes interactivity, with the spiral staircase as its centerpiece. Extending from the interior to the facade and back inside, it seamlessly connects various functional areas, offering consumers a convenient and comfortable visiting experience. Thoughtfully designed lighting enhances the staircase, adds spatial depth, and creates a warm, inviting atmosphere.

Research

The design team recognizes that bikes are more than just a convenient urban commuting tool. They serve as a bridge between people and nature, as well as the past and the future. By incorporating this culturally significant and symbolic element, EBI Lab transcends its role as a space for bike display and sales, becoming a platform for urban cultural exchange and a strong advocate for green mobility.

Inspiration

Inspired by the dynamic characteristics of bicycles and the core values of the EBI brand, this project reimagines urban travel. The dynamic, fluid form of bikes serves as a rich source of inspiration, while the integration of art and technology elements shapes a distinctive visual language. The result is a unique spatial experience that embodies the harmony of motion, creativity, and innovation.

Project Overview

Ebi Lab Office Building has been a Iron winner in the Architecture, Building and Structure Design award category in the year 2024 organized by the prestigious A' Design Award & Competition. The Iron A' Design Award is awarded to good designs that meet the rigorous professional and industrial standards set by the A' Design Awards. This recognition is reserved for works that demonstrate a solid understanding of design principles and show creativity within their execution. Recipients of the Iron A' Design Award are acknowledged for their practical innovations and contributions to their respective fields, providing solutions that improve quality of life and foster positive change. These designs are a testament to the skill and dedication of their creators, showcasing their ability to address real-world challenges through thoughtful design.
