Office Interiors for GOOD PLACE
The headquarters relocation project of Goldwin, a company that develops global brands such as The North Face, has yielded a unified office space of 6,000 square meters. This new space serves as a platform for communication and as a base for the Goldwin's global outreach. In line with the company's commitment to authenticity, only natural materials have been used for all finishing materials. The design concept envisions a harmonious integration of the six floors into a unified entity, akin to a single tree, creating an organic spatial composition with distinct expressions on each floor.

This project incorporates traditional Japanese techniques, such as plastering, mud walls and borrowed scenery, and uses natural materials for all finishing materials. This approach reflects a sincere commitment to authenticity. The use of plastering for floor and furniture finishes demonstrates a respect for craftsmanship. Additionally, the integration of the interior with the outdoors creates a sense of openness and harmony with the surrounding environment.

The entrance features a textured rammed earth finish layered horizontally and irregularly shaped natural stones that express a vibrant and powerful sense of life, contrasting with the linear ceiling lighting and stone materials. Some floors feature abundant wood to promote comfort, while others showcase a minimalist design with exposed base materials like LGS, resulting in a diverse office environment.
The primary challenge was in utilizing these non-uniform natural materials effectively. Through a detailed examination of the touch, shape, and texture of the materials, we ensured that the final product met the highest standards of fit and warmth. We meticulously arranged the veneer, cut from the same tree in the order it was harvested, to ensure a cohesive piece. Another challenge was creating a cohesive look while reusing over 80% of the furniture collected from various offices.
The project started in March 2023 and finished in May 2024 in Tokyo, Japan
The office has been designed to incorporate features specialized for the use of each floor, with the aim of accommodating the diverse tasks of employees. The press room and coworking space are located adjacent to each other to facilitate seamless and lively communication. The upper floors feature a minimalist interior design and highly adaptable furnishings, fostering an environment conducive to creative discussions.
Through site visits to client stores and labs, we gained insight into the brand's philosophy by observing the production process. Field research was conducted on the surrounding environment and the movement of passersby, considering the view of the office from Aoyama Street as a tool for brand communication. Additionally, 3D rendering tools were employed to present images to the client, facilitating discussions to ensure there was no discrepancy.
Goldwin's design incorporates 3 brand concepts: "Life with Nature," "Do More with Less," and "Dedication to Detail." These concepts encourage a sense of unity with nature and the development of shared values, promote new ideas born from minimalism, and emphasize uncompromising attention to materials and details, respectively. Based on these ideas, the design imagines a "strongly growing tree" throughout 6 floors, changing the spatial composition on each floor to create a creative space.
