The house is situated in Danzhou City, Hainan, China, surrounded by mountain and sea. The rooftop area includes an ecological garden and an infinity pool, enhancing the relaxing experience with indigenous plants. Adhering to a minimalist approach, the house is composed of natural materials and open spaces to foster harmony between the structure and its coastal surroundings.

The facade features aluminum panels adorned with a pattern that emulates the natural textures of waves and sand, allowing it to seamlessly integrate with the coastal landscape. When illuminated by sunlight, the surface texture of the aluminum panels shifts, rendering an array of visual effects. These specially treated panels exhibit exceptional weather resistance, ensuring durability against the challenging seaside climate.
To maximize the integration of landscape enhancement with thermal performance optimization, the team employed parametric trajectories to create a series of terraced setback blocks. This design allows the overhangs on each level to provide adequate shading for the lower glass curtain wall during the period of intense sun exposure, facilitating a good passive shading effect and ensuring that the guest rooms on each floor can fully access to the landscape.
Situated in Danzhou, Hainan, the design work commenced in Shanghai in February 2021 and reached completion in May of the same year.
The rooftop swimming pool and outdoor recreation area on the third floor are accessible via a dedicated elevator, ensuring complete separation from the guest accommodations. Additionally, the left side of the fourth floor is a closed garden, which serves as an ecological barrier through the use of hanging plants.
To harmonize the structure with the natural landscape of mountains and sea, the staggered design reflects the rolling waves and the mountain contours, reconciling with the surrounding environment. The incorporation of locally suitable vegetation around the building creates a landscape zone that complements the architectural style, enhancing the building's integration with nature and forming a cohesive entity.
The team aims to reimagine the regional vacation experience in line with the architectural principles. By employing a staggered terraced massing, the project seeks to mitigate the imposing scale of the structure along the coastline, and expects the building to look unaffected, just like a plant growing from the coastline. This approach ensures the provision of modern vacation comforts and preserves the inherent beauty of the mountains and ocean.
