Hotel for Liang DING & Yuefeng ZHOU
This project is a converted villa with five floors in the Shanghai suburbs, covers about 1,000sqm. The décor ties together a vivid new Chinese feel from the ceiling to the stone layout on the floor. The ceiling is decorated with black painting and grey stainless steel plate, which allows the hidden light to pass through the gaps. Materials like wood veneer, stainless steel, and painting signifying new Chinese feel are mixed together to create a new Chinese feel space. All in all, the design aims to bring people closer to Shanghai, and in essence, closer to themselves.

Xijiao Hotel - a converted villa with five floors in the Shanghai suburbs, covers about 1,000sqm. The decor ties together a vivid new Chinese feel from the ceiling to the stone layout on the floor. The ceiling is decorated with black painting and grey stainless steel plate, which allows the hidden light to pass through the gaps. This forms the main element of design on the ceiling and integrates with the stone flooring layout. Xijiao Hotel pays homage to the purest form of design by subtly blending the elements lending themselves to both poetic and finished decor.

Xijiao Hotel is realized through a wide variety of materials. Main material: Wall with wood veneer, latex paint, stone; Floor with stone, carpet, reinforced wood flooring, ceramic tile; Furniture, Lamp, Hardware. The theme of the project is making people feel like home, and offering venues to encourage people to have a good relaxation and rest. A huge variety of materials have been used from tiles to wooden flooring and wood being the primary materials. The dark color and gold color are mixed together to create a new Chinese feel space.
Considering the existing pipes on site, it's not easy to rearrange them to match with the whole design, especially in the underground restaurant area. How the pipes are laid out? How can the design achieve a good outcome at the least cost? Finally, the pipes are laid out in a very simplistic fashion in lines, which makes the exposed ceiling seems clean.
The project started in January 2019 in Changning, Shanghai, China and is under construction for now. The project is estimated to finish in May 2020 in Changning, Shanghai, China.
This is a converted project with five floors in Shanghai, China. Gaps on the ceiling for light flow are important design elements in this design. It also integrates with the stone flooring layout and other elements in elevation. All these design elements create a new Chinese feel space, where people can feel warm and peaceful.
In early 2018, the client team invited us to set up a design research group to specialize in the new Chinese feel hotel design where people can feel warm and spiritual healing. In 2018, the client team hopes to establish an experimental hotel in Shanghai. Our team has officially started the project.
The design is inspired by the dawn in Nature. As a proverb says, to watch the sunrise must wait till dawn. When tenacious sunshine breaks through a cloak of clouds, it can always touch the hearts of all. Xijiao hotel is like a temporary home for people who are away from home. After one day’s business, they can feel warm, inspiring and spiritual healing light when they go through the lobby, restaurant, corridor, etc. Even it’s dark outside, people can feel warm through the whole design.
