Restaurant for Da Tang

Most modern people live in cities and very busy. Talking about the "the relaxing life style" is a way of release the pressure. In modern urban life, people cannot really calm down and examine themselves. Through the medium of the "third space", people have a closer relationship with others and understand themselves better. This is the direction of the interior design "Hideaway Cafe" is working on.

Unique Properties

The manager of this restaurant is Japanese nationality and lives in Taiwan for many years. Therefore, we reproduce the Meiji Restoration style of Japan in this interior design, using elements such as the glass wall lamps, ceramic tiles, pine woods. We also add the Japanese Sake and wood tree to return the interior to the outdoor space and keep the Japanese tradition that people sometimes drink under the tree. Also, we wish to soothe the homesickness of people who lives far away from their home.

Operation Flow

Research

This space is aim to people who lives in city. Japanese tradition, Japanese Restoration period.

Inspiration

The Japanese-style restaurant is located next to the Xike Railway Station in New Taipei City. The place offers western food with Japanese taste and basically for office workers and families nearby. However, in the binning, the condition of the space is not very well, because this space is more than 30 years old. By taking our plan, for this space, to mix the Eastern and Western cultures, the harmony and Japanese Restoration period was reappeared, as well as the western design style. The environment of this case is located in the old community, and the new science park is nearby. People go to this restaurant to relax after getting off work and before taking the train. The door is on the right side of this space, not in the centre. The door is not very big, about 90cm, to reduce its commercial atmosphere. The restaurant is called "Hideaway Cafe", and the environment seems to be "hiding and seeking" with people and "hiding" in a community to maintain privacy and increase the interest in searching. The door is made of a Japanese style wooden grille, embedded in glass, and it is purely handmade. The wooden door gives people a warm and caring feeling. After opening the door, there is a small entrance area, and the entrance also has a wooden grille, which increases the permeability of the space, but also keeps the privacy of the diners, which is not so direct. Even so, the counter can be seen in the entrance, and it has the guiding function of the space. Behind the counter, there is a kitchen, which can assist the work of the counter. The seating area of this restaurant is divided into two parts, one area is located in front of the counter, which is relatively open. The other area is on the side of the counter area, which is relatively private. The private seating area has a wooden door frame. The function is to add curtains to the door frame to block different seating areas during small gatherings.
