This design maximizes the visual breadth of a long, narrow space through strategic material selection, lighting, and layout. The integration of stone and metal, combined with ambient and accent lighting, creates dynamic light and shadow effects, enhancing spatial perception. Thoughtful planning ensures both functionality and aesthetics, while the innovative use of materials and illumination techniques distinguishes this design, demonstrating technical precision and creative ingenuity.

This design employs spatial penetration techniques to enhance openness within the various living spaces. Titanium-plated steel and natural stone were selected for their durability, reflectivity, and ability to interact with light. Advanced CNC fabrication ensured precision in material execution. The repositioned TV wall improves spatial hierarchy and circulation, allowing for a larger seating area and an integrated island dining concept, enhancing both functionality and aesthetics.
The main challenge was designing a functional and visually open space within a narrow layout while ensuring sustainability and comfort. Penetration design techniques and multi-functional partitions made from eco-friendly materials were employed. LED lighting, reflective stone and metal panels amplify natural and artificial light, creating dynamic light and shadow effects. Titanium-plated steel with LED strips reduces energy consumption, ensuring a bright, warm, and energy-efficient living.
The location of this interior design project is in Taichung City. And it was completed in May 2024
The TV wall has been repositioned to make the long, narrow living room feel more open and spacious. Instead of a solid partition, a carefully divided screen maintains both style and transparency, creating a sense of connection. Shared walkways seamlessly link the entrance, living room, and bedroom, improving movement. The round-about design between the living and dining areas enhances flow, making the space more functional, comfortable, and visually cohesive.
The research focused on optimizing long, narrow spaces for better openness and functionality. Using case studies, spatial analysis, and user feedback, we tested layouts with 3D modeling, light studies, and ergonomic assessments. Repositioning the TV wall improved space perception, enabling a larger sofa and better circulation. The back- shaped partition added depth while maintaining openness. These findings improve comfort and efficient space use, meeting the needs of the homeowner.
This project was inspired by the challenge of transforming a long, narrow living space into a visually expansive and highly functional living space. The design draws from principles of spatial perception, natural light utilization, and material innovation to create openness and depth. By integrating light strips and reflective surfaces, the space achieves a dynamic interplay of light and shadow. The goal was to enhance aesthetics and practicality while overcoming structural limitations.
