modern, sophistication, study, stairwell, scholar, library, blackboard, collapsible sliding door
A collapsible, sliding glass door partitions the living room and the dining area. This cleverly prevents the transference of cooking aroma between the rooms and conserves air conditioning costs. Color coding and floor tiling differentiates the kitchen from the dining room and the entryway from the living room. The stairwell area uses recessed wall design for enhanced storage and display space. Various glass panes open up visual space and allow one to see others approaching.
The first floor contains a living room, dining room, and kitchen, one behind another. To distinguish each space but allow a glimpse of the entire area from the entryway, a partial, slatted-wood divider was installed. Black light strips along the ceiling guide the way through the rooms, and color coding and materials signify the transitions. A sliding glass door and counter assist. The stairwell area is compact, but the recessed wall creates storage space while glass panes enhance visual space.
The project was completed in 2021 in Taoyuan City, Taiwan.
Each floor has distinct style and purpose. The living space and dining area on 1F has a modern design. A collapsible, sliding glass door divides for functionality or folds into the wall for interconnectedness. The 2F is distinguished by its bright, airy vibe, which is conducive to studying and reading. It is well-equipped with a large study table for six, a huge chalkboard, and a cozy lounge area for breaks. The 3F mirrors the first floor in style and provides a soothing, elegant resting area.
Inspiration came from the homeowner’s love of books and preference for wood tones and stone-patterned materials. The study space was customized for that purpose. Likewise, light wood and darker wood cover the flooring, wall cabinets, and furniture, and the study area blackboard is backed by a platform of wood. Textured ceramic tiles the cover first floor wall, and marble countertops abound. The designer utilizes that inspiration to craft a modern, sophisticated residence catering to all needs.
