Retail Store for ImSD
This project is located in Panlong Tiandi, in the northeastern part of Xujing Town, Qingpu District, Shanghai. The space combines the profound cultural heritage of Panlong Ancient Town with the characteristics of Mtpt products, using materials, shapes, sounds, and light and shadow to blur the boundaries between indoors and outdoors, artificial and natural, with the theme of Touching Nature, allowing the beauty of nature to enter within the space and achieving a symbiotic fusion between architecture and landscape.

Centered around the project's core concept and the texture of the water town environment, we understand the symbiotic relationship between outdoor experiences and the natural environment. It has a morning glory-shaped sound installation. It draws people into a mysterious world of sound and light, allowing them to touch the sounds of nature in an unprecedented state, bringing people closer to nature.
"sound, installation, symbiosis, retail, micro-cement"
The space overall adopts raw wood and micro-cement materials to create a basic natural atmosphere indoors, blending seamlessly with the water town scenery through large floor-to-ceiling windows, allowing natural elements to run through and flow freely between indoors and outdoors.
The most difficult part of this design was the sloping wooden planks above the display area. The thickness of the board is only 20mm. It hangs in the air and will not deform. Solution: Use aluminum alloy frame internally and wood veneer on the surface.
The project started in June 2024 in Shanghai and finished in November 2024 in Shanghai
We designed a sound installation in this space. We collect outdoor water sounds, bird sounds, wind sounds, etc., to increase the interaction between people and nature.
The design of retail stores has been the subject of considerable research in disciplines such as marketing and consumer behavior. In this project, through the methods of dialogue, tropes and defamiliarization, we create a space that already exists in memory but is not yet fully present in reality. We hope that customers can have a different experience and give the retail design a new look. For example, tropes are used to represent abstract streams, ponds, and forests of light.
Inspired by my experience of hiking outdoors, I wanted to integrate outdoor forests, streams, ponds, stones, mountain huts and sounds into this space to blur the boundaries between indoors and outdoors, artificial and natural, with the theme of "Touching Nature", allowing the flexible beauty of nature to flow freely within the space and achieving a symbiotic fusion between architecture and landscape.
