Erbil is one of the most ancient cities in the world, boasting a rich history and a bright future. However, it is in desperate need of updated facilities and real estate due to the fast-growing population and regional development. The Pavilion project is an expansive 170-hectare development poised to be a cornerstone for Erbil's growth and a step towards a modern lifestyle. Our vision encompasses residential, commercial and office units, social and cultural areas, and green spaces tailored to local climate.

The Pavilion project is deeply committed to sustainability, implementing various eco-friendly strategies to reduce CO2 emissions and promote environmental stewardship. The development incorporates energy-efficient technologies such as high-performance insulation, energy-efficient windows, and state-of-the-art HVAC systems to minimize energy consumption. Renewable energy sources, including solar panels and geothermal systems, are utilized to power the project, significantly reducing reliance on fossil fuels.
The hardest part of the Pavilion project was ensuring the seamless integration of sustainability and comfort. Balancing eco-friendly materials and energy-efficient systems with the high standards of comfort and elegance required meticulous planning and innovative solutions. Additionally, coordinating the efforts of various stakeholders, including architects, engineers, and contractors, to maintain consistency and collaboration throughout the design process was a significant challenge.
The project site is located in Erbil, Iraq. The works on the design started in September 2024 and design and construction are performed simultaneously at the moment.
Our design promotes walkability to reduce vehicle emissions. Rainwater harvesting, greywater recycling, and efficient irrigation systems are implemented to promote sustainable water use and reduce consumption. By addressing these aspects, Pavilion sets a new standard for sustainable urban development in the region, contributing to a greener, more sustainable future for Erbil and positioning the city as a leader in environmental innovation.
The design research for the Pavilion project focused on creating elegant, naturally inspired spaces that blend sophistication with comfort. The project emphasized sustainability, innovative use of materials, and creating environments that promote well-being and luxury. The research included extensive studies on eco-friendly materials, energy-efficient design strategies, and the integration of natural elements to enhance the user experience. The predicted societal impact includes enhancing community spaces, providing areas for cultural events and social interaction, and contributing to the local economy through increased tourism and job creation. Additionally, the Pavilion by Rams is expected to serve as a model for sustainable development, inspiring future projects to prioritize environmental responsibility and community engagement.
While every project holds significance for an architect, some occupy a particularly special place in our hearts. It fills us with immense pride when we can enhance the lives of residents and set a benchmark for the entire region. In countries like Iraq, it's common for new large developments to be gated communities, isolating residents from the rest of the city and limiting communication, equity, and creating boundaries. In our design for Pavilion, Erbil, we opened all social areas to the public, providing access to sports, green, and cultural zones for everyone.
