Residential House for Somas Architecture

In the Sariyer Project, they highlight an approach where they work more with color, pattern, and texture in the winter garden section. According to the trends identified in recent years, designs that feature more personal touches and warmth are preferred, while making them timeless. However, they also emphasize the importance of not going overboard with maximalism. Designs throughout the house that embody personality and uniqueness enrich the project with carefully selected handmade pieces and works of art.

Unique Properties

When it comes to lighting in the space, they mention that they consider lighting beyond just a light source. They say that in recent years, more strategic and layered lighting usage in interiors will become more common, and they themselves follow this strategy. Lighting has been used as an important tool in the space to create mood and transform the atmosphere. Details like special chandeliers and artistic wall sconces enrich the lighting design of the project. Designers who follow trends prefer timeless designs instead of using generic and quickly outdated details. In the project, they have focused on designs that will be loved in the long term and will always remain relevant, rather than short lived trends. Particularly, kitchen furniture made from sustainable materials stands out for its environmentally friendly features and durability, making it suitable for long term use. In the kitchen cabinets, butter yellow, which is thought to give a sense of warmth, has been used. This color tone is considered highly suitable for furniture in rooms that receive plenty of natural light, such as kitchens, winter gardens, or outdoor areas. They believe that a bold color like butter yellow highlights classic and timeless kitchen furniture even more effectively. Mixing and mastering textures with dark colored wood requires confidence, and this is beautifully blended in the kitchen cabinets and the dark colored bar in the winter garden. In the living room, antique silver accessories inherited from the homeowners families have been predominantly chosen. The architects add that silver is strong, timeless, and versatile. Its balance between traditional and modern elements gives the project a beautiful effect.

Production Technology

The overall design of the house can be described as following the principle of intentional maximalism. In contrast to excessive simplification and minimalism, a rich, layered, and bold aesthetic was created by using plenty of detail, color, texture, and accessories. The intentional maximalism approach made sure each element served its purpose while highlighting personal tastes with authenticity and sincerity.

Design Challenge

In a variation of biophilic design, symbolic experiences were used, with green and brown toned wallpapers representing the richness and diversity of nature’s color palette, referring to the coffee bar. This made the space intimate and emotionally inviting. While creating layers in the details, particular attention was paid to the handmade layers in the wallpapers, leaf shaped lighting, material variety, color harmony, and texture contrasts. As a result, the overall home became more engaging, dynamic, and inviting.

Project Duration

Our housing project, located in Sariyer, one of Istanbul’s popular districts, covering an area of 210 square meter, was completed in 3 months.

Operation Flow

When starting the project and creating the concept designs, the fundamental starting point was the homeowners attachment to classic elements and the sense of lived in history. To create a sense of history and continuity within the space, the concept of timelessness became the key phrase. Timeless designs offer solutions that maintain their value not only aesthetically but also functionally over many years. The durability of the materials used in such designs is crucial. Timeless materials like natural stones, wood, and high quality fabrics ensure that the space remains strong both visually and functionally over time. A timeless interior is enriched with details that reflect the homeowners personal style. Antiques, handmade objects, artworks, and other unique pieces remain relevant across all periods and give the space a distinctive character. As a result, each new addition gradually forms a harmonious whole. The design must be flexible enough to adapt to the needs and lifestyle of the homeowners. A design that can easily adjust to changing life circumstances enhances the long-term usability and functionality of the space. Additionally, the effective use of natural light and proper air circulation creates not only an aesthetically pleasing environment but also a healthy living space. Ultimately, a timeless interior design offers a living space that appeals visually to every era while remaining functional and practical. It creates an environment where modern and classical elements coexist harmoniously and is resilient to changing trends. This design approach provides a satisfying living space from both an aesthetic and functional perspective for many years to come.

Research

This charming area creates a soft transition from the kitchen to the living room, and to emphasize the functionality of the space, rich color palettes were used, including a dark coffee-colored drinks-coffee unit and bar table. Dark tones, such as dark coffee, tend to absorb natural light, and therefore, there could be no better place to display the unit than this delightful winter garden, which receives natural light through large skylights.

Inspiration

Somas Architecture, while discussing the design details of the Sariyer House project, touched upon the 2025 trends and commented on their timeless styles. They provided information on how warm, earthy colors in interior spaces can be transformed into deep and rich tones. Architects began the Sariyer project by conducting research and collaborating with the homeowners through critical discussions. Understanding the homeowners lifestyle and personal needs plays a crucial role in the success of the design process. In every project, creating a design that aligns with the homeowners specific expectations and preferences ensures both functional and aesthetic satisfaction. First and foremost, environmental sustainability preferences must be considered. Whether the homeowners are environmentally conscious, their interest in energy efficiency, and the use of sustainable materials can make a significant difference in the project. These elements not only provide eco friendly solutions but also result in long-term cost savings. Additionally, regional and local conditions are another important factor that directly influences design decisions. The climate, local building regulations, and environmental factors of the area where the homeowners live determine the direction of the design. For example, maximizing natural light, planning the layout according to wind directions, or producing solutions in line with local traditions helps the project align with its surrounding environment. The homeowners personal tastes and values also play a significant role in the design. Their interest in art, historical connections, or hobbies shapes the essence of the home. These elements allow the space to become not only functional but also a personal expression. For example, according to artistic preferences, special artworks or antique pieces may be placed on the walls. Finally, technology and smart home solutions should also be considered in the project. As the use of digital technologies in homes continues to rise, smart home systems, security solutions, and energy efficient applications should be tailored to the homeowners needs. These solutions enhance the quality of life and create a more comfortable living space. A design that takes these aspects of the homeowners into account aligns perfectly with their lifestyle both aesthetically and functionally. As a result, the project is not only visually satisfying but also creates a practical and sustainable living space for the long term. This holistic approach makes the project timeless and valuable. The design and construction process was carried out by adhering to these principles throughout the entire project.
