Kitchen Lab for DEVA Design
The Yum China Innovation Center is a 2500 square meter integrated research and development facility located in Shanghai, China. The Innovation Center includes a test kitchen, a sensory test area, and laboratories dedicated to quality assurance, restaurant and equipment technology, packaging and new store prototypes. The facility was designed around an efficient work flow and modern materials selected to enhance communication and interaction among team members. The design style is minimalist to maintain a focus on food, product and process while creating an enjoyable work environment.

The Innovation Center is an optimization of the creative food experience. The design team carefully examined the food creation process and optimized the space to enhance the workflow and the movement of staff and visitors through the facility. The materials, colors and textures were selected to create an atmosphere that supports the sensory experience of new food creations.

Project duration from May 2018 to January 2018. The Innovation Center is located in Shanghai, China.
The YumChina Innovation Center is at the heart of YumChina’s efforts to bring healthy diverse food choices to China. In highly specialized kitchens, foods are researched, developed and optimized. Each of the specialized kitchens has been designed to provide efficient, hygienic and thoughtful workspaces. Everything from materials, equipment and ergonomics was considered. Special HVAC, water, power and data systems were developed to fully support the Innovation Center activities. This cutting edge project resulted from the collaboration of the designers, contractors and food experts.
The Yum China Innovation Kitchen facility is tasked with interpreting, developing and refining the many food products offered by the Yum China family of restaurants. Everything from the ingredients, to the look to the packaging are meticulously considered at this facility. Therefore, all aspects of this facility were also meticulously considered, refined and reconsidered to create a workplace that nurtures the very important tasks of the professionals that labor here creating the future of food.
