Many exhibitors construct temporary showrooms in today's capitalist world, without considering the waste and pollution they usually cause. In response to that, at the Shanghai International Furniture Fair 2019, an outdoor pavilion, specially designed for a furniture exhibitor, was built with the aim of demonstrating how trade shows can be made more eco-friendly by employing the principles of a circular economy.

The pavilion consists of 821 pieces of prefabricated market standard size plywood, enabling quick assembly or disassembly on site within 48 hours. Steel is used for the rest of the body and its hyperboloid roof (positive and negative arch-beam steel structure) is covered with semi-transparent tensile fabric for weatherproofing and spread sunlight evenly into the showroom. The whole space doesn't need a column to hold, presenting the showroom in a clean, sleek manner.
Having limited construction time and keeping costs at a minimum while simultaneously allowing the building to be fully recycled.
Start time: September, 2019 Completion time: September 2019 (furniture showroom), June 2020 (furniture recycle) Location: Shanghai New International Expo Center, Pudong District, Shanghai
Pavilion S is not just a furniture showroom, it is a place where one can relax and rest during the exhibition. The facade of the building composed of stacksof modular plywood units that doubles as display coves, blurs the elements of doors, windows and walls, instead it blends the functions together. The transparent facade of the pavilion captures plenty of sunlight, while the 1.22-meter-deep window prevents the sun from shining directly into the showroom.
Furniture Pavilion S was developed as an easily dismantlable and sustainable showroom. After the exhibition, the entire building istransformed into 410 sets of hexagonal tables and rectangle chairs. It isinstalled at Comprehensive Cultural Service Centre in the nearby rural community. The furniture has a playful set up that can be added to and pieced together for communal use, thereby, encouraging local activities. It also employs the principles of a circular economy.
