Fire Station for SUIADR
The plot is shaped like a trapezoid. The site adjoins an affordable housing on the south and Beihuan Avenue on the north, hence facing serious noise interference. In light of this fact, the project adopts an inner courtyard-style layout. Due to the Songpingshan Gas Vaporizing Station on the northwest corner, the building should be set back for 50m according to relevant regulations, which has a huge impact on the spatial layout and causes the building to lean towards the southeast corner. The project is a Grade-1 fire station with a plot area of 3.660,10m2 and a gross floor area of 5.791,64m2.

The main entrance and exit is set at the southeast corner of the site, through which firefighters and visitors enter the fire station. The fire garage faces the square. Fire garage, entrance hall, canteen and communication room are arranged on 1F, firefighters duty preparation room and lavatory are organized on 2F, and operation room and auxiliary room are set on 3F, 4F and 5F. Basement mainly accommodates equipment rooms. Multiple rest platforms are arranged to enrich the lives of firefighters.

The forms of each building feature a simple style and the building bodies have reasonable coefficient. The window-to-wall ratio and the area of curtain wall and external window meet relevant regulations and requirements. Each building is designed based on facades and adopts shading structure. Green architecture and sponge city technologies are applied to roof fruit garden. Concave green area is set for rainwater absorption, storage and seepage, controlling the rainwater runoff within the site.
Limited land area: The building set-back lines cannot be fully in accordance with the requirements of Shenzhen local regulations. After several times of negotiations with the planning bureau about set-back lines, the design team reached a reasonable bargain: the plot is set back at least 1.0m on the east side, 2.3m on the south side, 38.1m on the west side, and at least 8.15m on the north side. In this way, the fire station and the sports field are reasonably arranged within the limited land.
The project started in September 2016 and finished in December 2019 at the intersection of Baoshen Road and Keyuan Road, Nanshan District in Shenzhen, China.
Fire trucks leave the station via an exit nearby the street, greatly improving response efficiency. Overlapping circulation routes: Public participation is encouraged. Visiting areas open for citizens are mainly organized on 1F and mezzanine. Visitors' circulation routes pass through the mezzanine corridor, without affecting the internal daily training and duty circulation routes of firefighters.
Due to the Songpingshan Gas Vaporizing Station on the northwest corner, the building should be set back for 50m according to relevant regulations, which has a great impact on the spatial layout. On the basis of satisfying the requirements of set-back line, the design creates a curved screen wall to unfold a "dialogue" with the gas vaporizing station. In response to the serious noise interference from Beihuan Avenue on the north, the project adopts an inner courtyard-style layout.
The project is designed according to the research results of "2014 Shenzhen Fire Station Standardization Design Workshop". The experience of this project will be utilized to establish construction standards on fire stations in Shenzhen, so as to satisfy the requirements of building more fire stations and provide a reference for domestic fire station constructions.
