The designer focused on the social area, prioritizing the family's lifestyle. To create a spacious environment, the kitchen partition was removed, the entryway shortened, and the master bedroom recessed to expand the social area. To compensate for lost storage, cabinets were installed on both sides of the entryway for shoes and extra space. For the family's two daughters, the designer adjusted the layout to balance room sizes, using a 45-degree angled corridor to prevent wasted space and create smoother access, maximizing storage and space utilization.
Neutral tone, Xinzhuang, apartment, social area, understated luxury, daughters' room.
Materials: Eco-friendly emulsion paint, iron parts, transparent glass, marble, slab tiles, eco-friendly pp plate sheet, engineered hardwood flooring...etc. The materials used in each area match their functionality. For example, the marble on the TV wall brings out the luxurious texture and serves as the main visualization. The Italian tiles in the kitchen are easy to clean and non-slip. Engineered hardwood flooring allows the owner's daughters to step directly on the floor without compromising on comfort.
The main challenge was addressing the oppressive feeling caused by the ceiling height limitations. With a beam height of less than 240 cm, installing a concealed air conditioning system was difficult. To solve this, the designer planned for a long air outlet in the ceiling, hiding the air conditioning within it to effectively use the space while meeting the height requirements. Additionally, the children's rooms faced similar height issues. The designer opted for sloped ceilings to visually extend the space and counteract the limitations of the site.
The project finished in October 2022 in Taiwan.
The family is very pleased with the openness of the social area. The spacious, uninterrupted layout creates a seamless visual flow. The open study room, kitchen, and dining room provide everyone with their comfortable corner. The cozy atmosphere extends the time the family spends together in the social area, perfectly embodying the essence of 'home.'
This apartment renovation was designed to create a warm, stylish, and safe space for a family of four, focusing on openness, storage, and aesthetics. The social area was revamped, with a spacious, open layout ideal for family interactions, while the private areas retained comfort. The sloped ceiling in the daughters' rooms addresses height limitations and adds whimsical charm. A warm color palette, featuring iron gray and deep gray with marble and large-format tiles, was used to create a serene, modern style, blending deep and light tones for a balanced, cozy ambiance.
The project serves a family of four: the owners and their two children. The design team focused initially on the spatial experience that was most important to the owners, adjusting the layout to ensure openness before gradually integrating storage solutions and aesthetic preferences. A key aspect is creating a social space where the family spends most of their time together. The designer incorporated natural light and used a range of light and dark tones to create a transparent and expansive environment within the limited space.
