Production Technology

To avoid wastage and do not generate waste the design was based in modules according to the dimensions of the glass slabs and of the dimensions of the steel profiles. The structure is all screwed and the glass was glued at the structure with structural silicone to assure the mobility, flexibility and to be a freestanding construction. Its foundation in steel profile is external to the ground allowing the passage of all pipes.

Design Challenge

The creative process began with the desires of the customers. To meet a short period of construction; low cost; flexibility for future modifications; possibility of mobility and use of the precepts of sustainability for the whole construction, it was very difficult to gather all these concepts. The research was very long to bring all this together with aesthetics, functionality and innovation. All the choices had a motive that justified their use! To have a good project, nothing can be by chance ... The most important thing happened when the final result met customer expectations!

Project Duration

The project started in May 2015 in Belo Horizonte, Brazil and finished in July 2015.

Operation Flow

For future modifications, the design was based in modules and the glass was glued at the structure to assure flexibility without losing materials. The use of the reflective laminate glass allows an interaction between who is inside with everything outside the house, during the day. At night, if you have more light inside, fixtures on the ground around the house with strong light guarantees the privacy. Also the blinds inside, make a balance of privacy! Another highlight is the mimicking effect that reflective glass creates and makes the architecture disappear in the landscaping!

Research

To design a small house with a strong relationship with the landscape in a tropical country the most important point was the research of the right materials to use to guarantee a healthy home that would provide well-being to all residents. For this the reflective laminate glass was chosen. It ensured protection against a hundred percent UV rays and thermal insulation reached seventy one percent. The modular construction was chosen to enforce the sustainability concept without generating waste. The interior architecture also following the concept of sustainability.

Inspiration

This project is a house totally built with Reflective Laminated Glass to attend the desire of the clients, a young couple, in Belo Horizonte, Brazil. They were looking for a small house like a loft completely integrated to the nature! They also asked for a house with a short time of building; low coast; with flexibility for future modifications; with the possibility of mobility and with the precepts of sustainability for all construction. So, the inspiration for this design came from the desire of the clients.
