The project adopts the structural layout of Chinese architecture and Chinese design elements to create a distinctive Chinese traditional home atmosphere. At the same time, it provides more sufficient natural lighting and improves the traditional Chinese furniture, creating a more comfortable living experience.
Interior design, new Chinese style, detached villa, Chinese-style furniture, design furniture, interior lighting
The design idea of this project is extended around two aspects: embodiment of Chinese style and improvement of living comfort. The use of Chinese elements is as follows: Firstly, layout: the interior furnishings are in a symmetrical layout, which follows the traditional Chinese concept of Yin and Yang balance to reconcile the interior ecology. Secondly, enclosure: a new stone exterior wall are built outside the window to create an impression of traditional Chinese courtyard structure. Thirdly, roof: the pitched roof is built in the high-rise living room, and log Chinese lintel modelling is used. Fourthly, furnishings: Chinese-style design furniture, calligraphy and paintings with Chinese style and porcelains are used to create a distinctive Chinese cultural atmosphere. Improvement of living comfort is as follows: Firstly, the exterior walls of the public area in the living room are removed and replaced with full glass windows, which integrates the interior and exterior natural environment to bring better lighting and view to the interior. Secondly, skylight, sunroom, terrace and so on are added into the bedroom to enhance the interaction between human and nature. Thirdly, the Chinese Ming Dynasty furniture was used as a template to create a more comfortable new Chinese furniture.
The original building is a typical modern multi-storey detached villa. How to create the feeling of traditional Chinese courtyard with inward enclosure is the biggest challenge. The designer built a new two-storey high wall outside the living room, creating a sense of enclosed courtyard. Architectural elements such as pitched roof and log roof beam etc., are used to create distinctive Chinese features with indoor furnishings such as calligraphy, paintings, furniture and porcelain.
Design Period: March 2017 - August 2017 Construction Period: September 2017 - September 2018 Construction Period: September 2018 Project Location: No.666, Baosheng Road, Liang Lu, Yubei District, Chongqing, China
The designer transforms exterior walls of the public activity area in the living room on the first floor into floor-to-ceiling glass, integrating with the environment outside the window. The structure of the third floor has also been reconstructed. The main bedroom is equipped with skylights, sunshine halls, outdoor terraces and so on to maximize interaction between the interior space and the exterior natural environment, providing a healthy living environment close to nature for the residents.
Interpretation of traditional Chinese architectural elements in the new era Improvement design for furniture of Ming Dynasty in China Use of Chinese decorative elements Improvement of interior lighting Integration of interior and natural environment
The inspiration comes from the owner's expectations for the living environment. The owner are keen on traditional Chinese culture and the natural state of life, but hopes to improve the defects of over-repression and darkness in the traditional Chinese architecture. The designer combines traditional culture with modern aesthetics, refines classic Chinese elements, simplifies and enriches them, and perfectly integrates Chinese classical temperament with modern aesthetics.
