Kindergarten for Zhubo Design
The project is located in Shangsha Village. Most of the surrounding buildings are residential buildings in Shangsha Village. It serves mainly Shangsha residents. The east, south and west sides of the site are all multi-story residential buildings, and the north side is a new commercial renovation project. There is a relative lack of public space in the surrounding communities and a serious shortage of community cultural facilities. We believe that the construction of new kindergartens may be an opportunity to moderately improve this urban problem.

Urban villages are a special form of urban development. High-density handshake buildings and grid-like street textures naturally form a single spatial pattern. The project is located at the intersection of urban villages and commercial renovations. The collision of the two spatial modes inspires the kindergarten. The creation of its own diverse spatial levels breaks the boring spatial experience of conventional kindergartens and guides children to have a rich visual experience.

The project adopts a frame shear wall structure system. The overall stress is borne by straight columns, folded columns and irregular folded walls. The straight columns are located in the standard unit space and provide the main stress support. The irregular folded walls are 300mm thick. Reinforced concrete walls enclose canyon spaces of different shapes;the folding columns are offset in one direction along the irregular folding walls, and the offset angle is basically controlled between 10 and 20 degree.
The difficulty of the project lies in how to use appropriate construction materials and construction techniques, and use low-tech construction techniques to realize the relatively complex three-dimensional folded image of the project, meet the requirements of on-site construction accuracy and construction progress, and meet the complete expression of the project's own image.

There are 18 classes in the project. The classrooms are distributed in a straight line layout on three floors. The corridors that usually face the same side are designed to be arranged in an alternating north south direction, resulting in a double height corridor space. When children pass through the canyon along the corridor, they can feel the different spatial experiences brought by the three-story canyon space, the two story corridor, and the opposite single-story corridor at the same time.

We believe that the construction of new kindergartens may be an opportunity to moderately improve this urban problem.
The project is surrounded by residential buildings. How to form a container for visual and spatial experience became the source of inspiration for this project. The project started from the original and free canyon intention, and embedded three different places in the complete building form. Three different types of activity spaces are designed for children with different shapes and distinctive gaps; the sunlight gradually illuminates at different times, forming a container of light.
