Residence for Shan Cun Fu Hong Interior Design
As this project is a reflection by the designer on the inundated western industrial design and traditional eastern aesthetics, as it sought to preserve the essence of traditional Chinese culture, which was invigorated by the infusion of modern aesthetics. As opposed to the usual preferred Chinese styling color tones, the light colored timber pattern added to its beauty, with all interior areas spatially converged to a point or a line, as part of the pursuit of symmetrical beauty.

In contrast to the Western concept of spatial design that is filled with power and outward contrast, people can find reservation, harmony, serenity and order in the Oriental traditional architecture and craft aesthetics, especially from the new Chinese styling derived from its classic styling. This project encompassed the functionality of modern western design, in successfully continuing the legacy the serene elegance and genuine spiritual pursuit in the traditional Chinese culture.

With the indispensable circle element in the new Chinese styling, it is epitomized in the design of the dining area which articulated the gathering for meals in the traditional Chinese culture, and the design team successfully overcame the seamless joint of veneer in the elevation design. And as opposed to the usual wall painting materials, the design team mounted a large traditional Chinese water ink painting on the wall in exhibiting the grandeur of the celebrated sense of fulfilment.
The project finished in February, 2018 in Taichung, Taiwan.
Traditional Chinese aesthetics places high premium on the beauty of symmetry, which originated from their unique school of philosophical thinking in the balance of Yinyang.
As the maintenance of traditional culture progressing with the time is one of the missions of designers, in the era of globalization, it is critical for the humanity first design domain to help people to find the cultural root that may have been gradually forgotten. And in this project, the reflection of the designer on the Western industrial design and Oriental traditional aesthetics was translated to the sense of order in the form of linear elements exhibiting stability and fulfillment.
In the Chinese world, the core principle of interpersonal interaction and decorum is to adhere to the good, and to escape from the bad. Fengshui was indeed a spatial layout theory based on order bringing stability and harmony to home. In order to facilitate the changes in modern life style, while preserving Chinese culture, the design team reflected and explored in ultimately applying the principle of the balanced symmetry of Yinyang in this spatial design.
