Exhibition Booth for Hakuten Corporation
Crecia's booth embodies sustainability with a paper and wood concept, ensuring all materials are reused or recycled. It highlights wood's role in daily life and Crecia’s commitment to waste reduction. Featuring Hokkaido thinned wood pipes and tool-free flooring, the structure redefines sustainable exhibition design. A 75m paper installation showcases Crecia’s long-roll toilet paper, while a stamp rally using surplus materials promotes recycling. This initiative minimizes waste and inspires industry-wide sustainability.

This project is designed to prompt reflection on the everyday use of "paper and wood". It aims to advocate how wood resources are integral to our lives and provides detailed exhibitions on the importance of paper recycling. In booth decorations, it emphasizes the importance of wood resources by exclusively using "paper and wood", achieving a design that visualizes the intended message while promoting environmentally sustainable practices and reducing environmental impact.

Crecia's toilet paper is three times longer than traditional rolls, visually represented by incorporating approximately 75 meters of paper into the upper construction to showcase this feature. Additionally, three types of plywood are randomly combined to emphasize the natural beauty of wood tones and textures. The wooden structures are designed with disassembly in mind, using screws only for fixation, and puzzle-like shapes enable easy installation of wooden flooring without the need for tools.
When creating booths using only "paper and wood," the most challenging aspect was the booth's structure. Through trial and error, we replaced metal pipes commonly used in construction scaffolding with wooden pipes. These wooden pipes are made from thinned-out Todomatsu (Hokkaido fir), significantly contributing to regional forestry promotion. This design not only enhances the quality and uniqueness of the design but also contributes to solving and developing forestry challenges.
It was exhibited at Tokyo Big Sight in Japan in August 2023.
At our booth, we conducted a stamp rally using surplus tissue box materials from the manufacturing process instead of regular paper. This initiative aimed to educate visitors on the recyclability of paper. Participants completed the rally by depositing stamped papers into a collection box, reinforcing the message of recycling. Additionally, we conducted surveys to understand how people dispose of used tissue boxes, further promoting paper recycling.
Conventionally, exhibitions have generated substantial waste, but Crecia's initiative has garnered attention for waste reduction in the exhibition industry, ushering in a new concept. Designs using only wood and paper, both recyclable, enhance exhibition sustainability, leading to economic benefits from reduced waste disposal costs. Moreover, this new concept has influenced other exhibitors and the entire industry, promoting the adoption of sustainable exhibition practices.
Crecia manufactures and sells paper products such as tissues and toilet paper, using paper made from environmentally friendly and sustainable wood resources. To convey the sustainability of these wood resources, they came up with the idea of creating a booth using only "paper and wood" materials, aiming to produce no waste by reusing or recycling everything after the event. They focused on designs that highlight the essence of "paper and wood" without unnecessary processing.
